Players will always come and go, but Cult Hero's stay with you forever. I'm genuinely gutted that Michael Hefele has left us, but he's leaving having left a wonderful imprint on all of our memories despite only being here for 2 seasons. 'The Hef', A player with a cult status similar to an Iain Dunn, Darren Bullock or Ronnie Jepson, where he perhaps wasn't the stand out player in the side in terms of talent, but always one of if not the most popular. Hefele will certainly be a player I'll look back on over the next 15-20 years and when in conversation with friends I imagine they'll start with a childish grin and a "remember when Hefele....". So with that in mind.

REMEMBER WHEN we were linked with this unknown German from Dynamo Dresden so we googled him and found the below images?

Then a video of him singing with the Dresden fans.

REMEMBER WHEN he was so excited to join us so that he could be more physical in England and perform "Hard Tacklings".

REMEMBER WHEN his doppelganger gate crashed Danny Ward's interview in a soft cotton dressing gown in the background? A quality exchange then ensued between @Htfcworld and The official Huddersfield Town account.

REMEMBER WHEN Hef and DTS replied, and Danny made it better?

REMEMBER WHEN Hef scored his first goal in pre season, we got a glimpse of 'The Claw' and we all loved him just that little bit more. Aside, from Danny G who fell head over heels.

REMEMBER WHEN The Club shop ran out of red no 4's due to the demand of HEFELE 44 on the back of the shirt?

REMEMBER WHEN Hef made his league debut at Villa park? Hef entered the fray in the 86th minute akin to a WWE wrestler whipping up the away fans in the style of Hulk Hogan. Two minutes later Hef charges down a back pass with his arse and scores a comedy goal with his first touch in English League football.

REMEMBER WHEN he celebrated the goal at Villa Park with the knee slide and double claw?

REMEMBER WHEN moments later a new song was born?

REMEMBER WHEN he celebrated like a loon at Villa Park?

REMEMBER WHEN Hef made his home debut on the 17th September vs QPR. He came on in the 89th minute and with his first touch dribbled the full length of the field with the ball but fell over just before pulling the trigger for the goal of the season.

REMEMBER WHEN Hef nailed down a place in the side and was looking great at Centre Back. Town make a best of compilation video of him at xmas.

REMEMBER WHEN In an important local derby at the top end of the Championship, Hefele popped up in the last minute to win the game.

REMEMBER WHEN families up and down the country were tucking into their roasties, when Hef dropped "The Hef Bomb" on live TV. The seasons catchphrase was then born. Izzy's face was a picture.

REMEMBER WHEN Town secured a dramatic late win at Rotherham and Hefele joined in with singing "It's a fucking dream" with the Town fans.

REMEMBER WHEN Hef turned up to the Annual Awards dinner looking like he was set to pick up the Ballon D'or and won The Media Player of the Year Award.

REMEMBER WHEN Town entered their first ever Championship Playoff campaign. 1-0 down in the 2nd leg at Hillsborough, we needed heroes and leaders. Hef stepped up with a man mountain style display, scores in the shootout and gets the man of the match. Then celebrated by grabbing someone's groin in the aftermath.

REMEMBER WHEN Hef was magnificent throughout at Wembley and ok he missed his penalty but we won promotion, he revealed his master plan and celebrated with some nifty break dancing.

REMEMBER WHEN he reenacted Laurent DePoitre's goal at Chelsea like a gleeful kid?

Farewell old friend, no one will forget you in Huddersfield. And to Nottingham Forest fans, Cherish him, Love him, but most importantly enjoy him. Characters like this don't come along very often.

Auf Wiedersehen Michael.
